สวัสดิการสังคม
ตามกฎอิมมิเกรชั่น คุณสามารถขอใช้สวัสดิการสังคมหลังจากคุณได้ใบเขียว 5 ปีขึ้นไป

สวัสดิการสังคมแยกเป็นสองโปรแกรมคือ
(1) สวัสดิการสังคมของรัฐบาลกลาง และ
(2) สวัสดิการสังคมของรัฐ ซึ่งขึ้นอยู่แต่ละรัฐจะกำหนด

ที่นี้จะกล่าวถึงแต่สวัสดิการสังคมของรัฐบาลกลางเท่านั้น

ถ้าคุณไปใช้สวัสดิการสังคมของรัฐบาลกลาง “เพอร์ทิชันเน่อร์”หรือสปอนเซ่อร์อาจต้องใช้เงินคืนให้รัฐบาลถ้าถูกเรียกทวง คือ Food Stamps, Medicaid, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, และ the State Child Health Insurance Program.

ส่วนสวัสดิการที่ไม่รวม คือถ้าคุณไปใช้สวัสดิการเหล่านี้ “เพอร์ทิชันเน่อร์” หรือสปอนเซ่อร์ไม่ต้องชดใช้คือ Emergency Medicaid; short-term, non-cash emergency relief; services provided under the National School Lunch and Child Nutrition Acts; immunization and testing for communicable disease; student assistance under the Higher Education Act and Public Health Service Act; certain forms of foster care or adoption assistance under the Social Security Act; Head Start Programs, programs under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act; and Job training Partnership Act programs.
